I am now two months into my resettlement in Cuenca, Ecuador. While things have gone relatively well, I am starting to get the itch for change. What is going on exactly? Wasn’t settling into retirement exactly the plan? I’m just not sure what my next direction should be.

The past several months were extremely busy. I was closing up my work at my previous employer while getting rolling with the visa process and researching the best living situation in Cuenca for my family. Now that I am mostly settled (I received my temporary residency visa and found great housing), I find myself getting really antsy.
Should I go back to work? If I go back to work, what kind of work should I do? Should I find some volunteer opportunities in the city? Do I want to stay in the city long term or move to the country eventually? Maybe I should just spend a lot of time figuring out how to make pho in Ecuador and plan my daughter’s third birthday party? There is always SOMETHING to do, I just need to find my groove and do it.
Fortunately, I can afford to take all the time in the world to figure it out. I have lots of open mornings to consider my options and practice retirement.
