Bare Minimum Kitchen Items

We are moving abroad, and that means getting rid of nearly everything we own.  One of my biggest tasks is to clear out my kitchen before we depart at the end of June.  But we still need to cook and eat for the next several weeks, so I decided to make a bare minimum supply list of items to keep.  Everything else will be sold or donated as soon as possible.

Prep and Cook Items

One pot for preparing pasta, soups, or rice.

One pan for preparing stir fry, sauteing, or browning.

A chef’s knife for chopping vegetables.

A cutting board for prepping ingredients.

A baking sheet for baking biscuits, roasting meats, etc.

A mixing bowl for mixing ingredients.

Utensils

Fork, spoons, and knives because how else will I shovel food in my mouth?

Chopsticks for all the dumplings and curries we make.

Measuring spoons and cups for the occasions I actually measure.

Extras

Can opener because we need to break into the cans of beans somehow.

Peeler because I don’t trust myself peeling potatoes and carrots with a chef’s knife.

Colander for all the pasta we eat!

Wooden spoon to stir my soup.

Silicon spatula for flipping pancakes, etc.

Tongs because we somehow use them to cook most meats.

Grater because we love cheese a little too much and it’s also great for veggies.

Bowls, plates, and most cups are out! We are terrible stewards of the environment and will use disposable plates.  We’ll keep sippy cups, a couple choice tumblers and TWO coffee mugs, as well.

What Would You Need?

What are the bare minimum items you would need to survive in your kitchen? Is there a tool or small appliance you just can’t live without? Let me know in the comments!
