Life has thrown us some major curveballs over the course of the last several months. Our move to the beautiful West Virginia fell through. The result of which was pulling out of a home purchase just weeks before closing and letting my new employer know I would not be arriving to help them build a new public library branch.
However, we did eventually leave Southwest Oklahoma. We are now residing in the Ozarks of Missouri. We arrived in July for my husband to start a new job, and by September we made the mutual decision for him to quit. In the meantime, I started my new job as a librarian at a major science and technology university and my daughter gets to attend a STEM focused daycare.
But perhaps best of all, it is absolutely gorgeous here.
The Ozarks are a playland for outdoorsy types like us and we are already taking advantage of all the land has to offer. My husband bought himself a fishing pole to enjoy the creeks. We have been making use of our camping equipment and plan to spend a few more weekends outdoors before the season closes. Only an hour drive from Lake of the Ozarks and even nearer to the Mark Twain National Forest, there is so much for us to explore. Even in our little town there is a beautiful spring.
But the uncertainty of the times has really made us reconsider what we are intending to do in the next several years. While our flexibility has allowed for quick changes followed by a moment to breath, we need to take stock. What do we want life to look like going forward? What is really important to us? And how do we live a life that reflects what is important to us?
So its time to really simplify. We need to reduce our consumption and reduce our current holdings to get to where we want to be. The name of the game is letting go: letting go of ill-conceived expectations and letting go of all the trappings that come with that. It’s time to let go of STUFF and focus on life.
